Five ways to leave Cancun airport, compared on price, waiting, luggage and what happens when your flight is late.
Fixed price in USD for the whole vehicle. Taxes and airport fees included, no surprises when you land.
There are five ways to leave Cancun International Airport: an airport taxi, Uber, a shared shuttle, the ADO bus or a pre-booked private transfer. If you travel light on a tight budget, the bus or a shuttle works. If you are a family or a group, landing late, or heading to Playa del Carmen or Tulum, a private transfer is the simplest option and often close in price per person.
| Option | How the price works | Waits for you | Door to door | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airport taxi | Set at the counter for your zone, per vehicle, after you land | No, you queue for a car | Yes | Travelers who did not pre-book |
| Uber | App price at the moment you request; can change with demand | Under the app’s rules | Yes | Light luggage and short rides when cars are available |
| Shared shuttle | Per person, booked ahead | Waits until the van fills | Several hotel stops | Solo travelers with time to spare |
| ADO bus | Per person ticket at the terminal | Fixed schedule | No, bus station to bus station | Budget travelers with light bags |
| Ride Luxe private transfer | Fixed per vehicle, agreed before you fly | 60 min free after landing | Yes, direct | Families, groups, late arrivals, Playa del Carmen and Tulum |
Taxis are arranged at the ground transportation counters after customs. The fare is set at the counter for your zone and you queue for a car. It works, but you only learn the price after you land, and nobody is tracking your flight if it is late.
Since 2025 Uber can serve Cancun airport through Uber Reserve and Uber Taxi. Price and availability depend on demand at the moment you land, and luggage space depends on the car that accepts the ride. For a family with suitcases, or a 45 minute drive to Playa del Carmen, a fixed price vehicle is easier to plan.
Shared vans sell seats per person. They wait until the van is full and stop at several hotels before yours, which can add a lot of time after a long flight. They suit solo travelers who are not in a hurry.
ADO buses run from the airport terminals to downtown Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum on a fixed schedule. They are the cheapest option, but they stop at bus stations rather than hotels, so you still need a taxi at the other end. The Tren Maya has a Cancun Airport station; check how you connect from your terminal to the station and from the station at your destination to your hotel.
Your chauffeur meets you at the Welcome Bar (Terminal 2 domestic, Terminal 4) or Margaritaville (Terminal 2 international, Terminal 3) with a sign showing your name. Before pickup you receive a tracking link with your chauffeur’s photo, the vehicle plate and its live location, and your chauffeur waits up to 60 minutes after landing at no charge.
After customs you walk through a hall of sales desks. Some offer transport or discounts in exchange for attending a timeshare presentation. With a reservation there is no reason to stop: walk straight through to your meeting point.

Since 2025 Uber can serve Cancun airport through Uber Reserve and Uber Taxi. Price and availability depend on demand when you land. A pre-booked private transfer gives you a fixed price per vehicle, a chauffeur waiting at your terminal and 60 minutes of free waiting.
The ADO bus is the cheapest, but it stops at the Tulum bus station, so you still need a taxi to your hotel. A private Ride Luxe transfer goes door to door from $125 USD per vehicle, which a family or group shares.
Yes, if you want to know the price before you fly, have your flight tracked and find someone waiting for you. It matters most for families, late arrivals and longer drives to Playa del Carmen or Tulum.
Both are priced per vehicle. The difference is that a pre-booked transfer is fixed before you travel, includes flight tracking and waiting time, and is sized for your group. Ride Luxe Economy to the Hotel Zone starts at $40 USD per vehicle.
